This site-specific video was made for the seminar and exhibition Open Engagement at Marabouparken, Sundbyberg 30th of September - 11th of October.

The municipality of Sundbyberg develops, and exploits. The area along the river in Sundyberg is sold to private housing companies. In the sales contracts clauses are included saying that public spaces must be a part of the plans for the new constructions. In the specific area I chose to work in, this public area consists of a narrow gravel path between the dwelling houses and the private yacht club. Can this surface really work as a public place?
In the video, I am exploring this space and the architecture that defines it, using my body as a tool for this. Architecture as limitation, condition and controling element.

PHYSICAL EXPLORATION - KUNGÄLV

Physical exploration - KUNGÄLV is a site-specific work about the relationship between the human body and the architecture in the public space in the city center of Kungälv. In the work I use my body as a tool for exploration to better understand the chosen space. I move in a way I feel "suits" the shape of the space trying to respond to surfaces, materials and such instead of the conventional ways to move within it. I search for my own logic in order to break normality and power structures.

The video was shown at Mimers Konsthall in Kungälv, Sweden in January/February 2010. During the exhibition the work also "visited" an undertaker, a bank and two cafes in Kungälv in an attempt to extend the exhibition space from the white cube out to the city space explored in the work.

PHYSICAL EXPLORATION - ÅMÅL

"Physical Exploration - ÅMÅL" is a site-specific work about the relationship between the human body and the architecture in the public space in Åmål. In this work the exploration takes a different direction than in Physical exploration- Kungälv. The ideas about new ways of responding to the spaces chosen in the city still stands but repetition is used to make a point of importance.

The video installation was showed at Åmåls Konsthall.
